I have no idea what this whole Cookieman responding with walls of text thing is all about, but it sounded amusing. So here goes. In the beforetime, there was a great void. Players would move from server to server, connecting only in the sense of a network protocol. Players would play, but not speak. They bound special keys to say "WTF? hax!" but that was the extent of their communication with one another. Users fragged away, alone in a world of ones and zeros, oblivious to the social world around them. Then something amazing happened: somebody cool started playing computer games. He wore sunglasses, and he used voicechat to tell all about his latest conquests with "the ladies". Gamers around the world wanted to be like him. They formed groups, now called Clans, all based on the different interpretations on the words of "The Great 1337 Man". Within the clans, the basis for social interactions began to spring up. Connections became more than mere network protocols -- people began connecting on a personal level, too! People became "friends" and "enemies" and even "frenemies". Competitions emerged, ladders were formed, Leagues were created, and some clans even aspired to encompass multiple games and platforms, all hoping to one day dominate and force the world to accept their interpretation of The Great 1337 Man. These clans fought a bitter rivalry with one another. They sent spies into other groups, hoping to infiltrate and plant the seeds of terror and mistrust in their enemies. As the political intricacies of these clans evolved, it took over the so-called "real lives" of the gamers behind them. It became an obsession, and the word of The Great 1337 Man was lost, and desire for utter domination and pwnage became the driving factor for these clans. With the political ramifications becoming apparent, there arose another -- not so great -- 1337 man (note the lowercase). He was still pretty awesome, but his words could not be heard by the clouded mess of this Brave New Gaming World. The gamers were too entrenched in their bitter rivalries to listen. His words were simple, so as to hopefully one day not be misunderstood. And it is here that I share with you, for the first time, the written record of Hottie Parms. Thy clan is thy brotherhood, yet thy neighbor's clan is also thy brotherhood. We are all united in the homage of Gaming, and the lost will of The Great 1337 Man. We cannot allow one single clan to dominate the Gaming World, for if such a day happens, corruption will finally take it's complete hold. Our only hope is to keep the power spread, diluted amongst an infinite number of clans, so as no single clan may arise to take control. Fear not, clan leaders, the splitting and breaking apart of clans. Nay, I say, fear the day when clans break, but are not reformed. This signals the halt of the evolutionary process, and the reign of terror and destruction by the forces of Evil. To be clear, I will relate this message to the question posed by "Your Mom". I address the following to all: See this group of people leaving your clan not as betrayers, but see them as true heroes, spurring on evolution, preventing one clan from dominating all in the world, and, most importantly, for keeping evil at bay for just one more day. What more can we ask of these heroes? |
